«1,2 millones de niños no tienen acceso a la educación en Honduras.»

BASIC EDUCATION

Equivalent to the ESO in Spain. It consists of three grades (7th, 8th, and 9th): the last three years of mandatory education in Honduras. Students start at age 11 and graduate from the Basic Cycle at age 15.
We currently have 109 students in these three grades.
In the mornings, they study the basic education, and in the afternoons they have their technical studies.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION

We offer a 3-year technical education, integrated with mandatory education, to facilitate our students' access to the labour market.

Our students can choose between the Technical Studies in Glass Art or the Technical Studies in Cooking and Tourism.
Each year focuses on a specific occupational outcome, such as stained glass, glass carving, and glass transformation; and cooking, baking, and hotel management.

SECONDARY EDUCATION

Currently, we have 36 students enrolled in the two years of the Baccalaureate program (10th and 11th grades).
Many of them choose to continue their technical training, in the form of paid internships, in our job placement projects: Lahat (glass brand) and the Food Truck.
Over the years, we have been improving the Baccalaureate program, and currently, we have students who go on to attend university.

Faculty

Teachers are the fundamental pillars of education. At the school, we have 14 Honduran teachers who support, help, accompany, and, of course, teach our 150 students.

A teacher is much more than someone who educates when we talk about vulnerable groups: they are mentors and role models.

In secondary schools in Honduras, teachers encounter young people with very low education levels, where difficulties such as dyslexia or mental health issues are abundant..

Food

One of the greatest challenges we have faced, and therefore, it has become one of our greatest achievements.

We provide free meal scholarships to all students and teachers. In total, we serve 170 lunches and snacks from Monday to Friday, from February to November.

The students of the Technical Studies in Cooking prepare the food for the entire school every day. Along with head chef Diana, they organize the program, learn different techniques, and in turn, support the school in the best possible way.

Baccalaureate

It took us a few years to make students and their families see the importance of having a high school diploma.

For many years, what interested the students most was completing their obligatory education (up to 9th grade) and technical training, so they could get a job as soon as they left school.

Currently, we have 36 students across the two high school diploma courses, and many of them have the intention and desire to go to university.

Uniform

Most of our students do not have a complete wardrobe, and they truly need these clothes.

It was important for us that the communities could identify which students were from the Escuela del Vidrio, to create a connection with them and raise awareness about the school. Additionally, different uniforms are needed for the technical programs, and this is also reflected in the budget.

Technical Supplies

Our 3-year technical programs are essential at the Escuela del Vidrio. Our students come to the school eager to learn and, in turn, to see the results of their studies reflected in something practical, beyond just grades.

In both technical studies, in Cooking and Tourism as well as in Glass Art, there are 3 different career paths. In Cooking and Tourism, one year is dedicated to Bakery, another to Culinary Arts, and another to Tourism Management. In Glass Art, the career paths are Stained Glass, Glass Transformation and Carving. Both technical programs are studied alongside mandatory education.

School Supplies

For our 150 students, (the same as in all schools); backpacks, notebooks, books, pencil cases, and other supplies are needed.

In 2024, we received a generous donation from the company DIUNSA, who supported us with school supplies. That is why the amount we are requesting for donations for school supplies this year is very low.

In 2023, the cost of basic school supplies was 33€ per student per year.

Insurance

Health, safety, and precaution are fundamental at the Escuela del Vidrio.

Students receive theoretical classes before they begin their practical work in both the kitchen and the workshops. However, there have been occasional minor accidents in the workshops, in the kitchen, and while playing in the courtyard. That is why we have a complete accident insurance policy, which students can use in the event of any accident, discomfort, or illness.
